You the Man...

***Tricky Dicky takes an early victory lap in Bernie's column today:  I’m not sure how much influence Durbin had on Obama’s entry into the race, but it sure looks as if he provided a good nudge.

How many stories over the next several weeks will we hear and read about people saying they are the one who pushed The Obama into the race?  Durbin has always been good at patting himself on the back.  It is a shame that he doesn't use his 'powerful' presence for good in the state he supposedly represents.

If he could 'sense' that The Obama could go all the way and he cajoled The Obama into making the race, shouldn't he be using this power to bring together Crazy Rod and the GA?  Shouldn't Tricky Dicky attempt to figure out skyrocketing unemployment in IL?  Shouldn't he work day and night to protect jobs in HIS HOMETOWN?  Shouldn't the Sr. Senator prefer to be in Spfld working on IL issues rather than saying he'd rather be in Baghdad?

Durbin is attempting to solidify his DC cred.  Since going to DC about 3 decades ago, it hasn't been about his hometown, his district or his state.  It has always been about him.  All you have to do is read Bernie's column to hear how proud of himself he is.

***This was on NRO a few days back but Kass picks up on UIC protecting The Obama's relationship with William Ayers.

***The Chicago Urban League is suing IL over how public education is funded.  Is the property tax system flawed?  Certainly.  However, what would be a better system that guarantees local control?  Also, this lawsuit indicates the funding disparity is unconstitutional and discriminatory.  Well, what happens if the revenue stream shifts from property tax to state sales tax.  Each district would still receive a set allocation from the state per pupil, presumably.  And, rich districts would still pour more money into the district budget via fundraisers, direct donations, booster days, PTA hot dog days, etc., etc., etc.  And, the funding disparity will still exist.  Who do you sue then?
