Biblical Governor
***King Solomon. Crazy Rod compared himself to King Solomon on Friday. Honestly:
Blagojevich said the move was not meant as a slight to Springfield. He tried likening himself to King Solomon, the Old Testament monarch who offered to split a baby in half when two women were claiming to be its mother.
“(Solomon) knew who the real mom was because she wouldn’t allow her baby being split,” Blagojevich said. “I don’t consider the decisions I make as being one part of our state against the other. You gotta make these decisions with regard to what you think is best for the whole.”
(In another analogy, Blagojevich compared himself to Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, an Eastern Illinois University graduate.)

***The SJ-R says this morning that reducing the size of the County Board is a great idea. Fine. How about we reduce the size of the City Council? What about the long fabled Metro Govt? Both of these ideas would save money. Both of these ideas would consolidate services. And, both of these ideas will consolidate power in the hands of leadership and not in the hands of the voters. This idea was the brain-child of another wacky politician, Pat Quinn. The reduction amendment was intended to save money. All it did was consolidate power in the hands of the Four Tops. And, does ANYONE really believe that the reduction amendment has SAVED ANY MONEY???

***The Chicago Tribune takes a hard, investigatory look at the hicks downstate who continue to smoke in bars. The heathens!!! A KELM AND KIRK WARNING: This article should not be viewed by those under the age of 21 because it deals with smokes and booze AND should not be viewed at work because the Boss is watching!
***This is one difference between us and them. The NYT today editorializes that, based on a survey of doubtful origin, Americans who delayed or didn't seek medical treatment last year is reason enough for universal health care. Wait a minute. If everyone went to the doctor because they got the sniffles or a cold or the flu or a toothache or a headache our health system would be more stressed than it is now. This is the market doing its job.
